Memory cards for palmtops and cellphones cost around 拢40 for a mere 16
megabytes鈥攂ut a tiny new recordable disc aims to cut that price while
giving you heaps more storage. The 32-millimetre-square double-sided disc, just
4 millimetres thick, developed by DataPlay of Boulder, Colorado, stores 500
megabytes. Toshiba, Panasonic and Samsung are backing the system, which is based
on a Kodak technology. The DataPlay discs鈥攍aunching in January priced
around 拢5鈥攃an store music, video or e-books. Toshiba expects them to
be sold with pre-recorded content on one side and the other side left blank.
