The British government has given its strongest support yet to renewable
electricity production. Last week energy minister John Battle announced funds
for 261 projects aimed at generating 1177 megawatts of electricity from wind,
water and waste. This emerged from the latest round of the Non Fossil Fuel
Obligation (NFFO), which obliges electricity companies to buy from alternative
sources. It’s a major shift from the NFFO for 1997 which specified 195 projects
and 843 megawatts of electricity.
