JUST across the Thames from New Å®ÉúСÊÓƵ, you can treat yourself to a view of Brian Clarke’s architectural glass work, which forms part of a new office block near St Paul’s Cathedral. To see his 1988 lantern tower (left) you will have to travel to Lake Sagami in Japan. Clarke’s talent for using glass to bring colour as well as light into a building has been recognised worldwide. Now a visiting professor at the Bartlett Institute of Architecture, University College London, his work – paintings as well as glass works – covers the world from Texas to Germany and India. As part of a series of monographs on design and art, Academy Editions has published Brian Clarke (pp 128, £19.95). An interesting buy.
