If you have access to a fax machine and an idea for an image, you can
take part in a global art exhibition by dialling up the fax machine at The
Custard Factory in Birmingham between Friday 7 May and Saturday 14 May.
Jurgis Lugas, one of the organisers, describes it as an attempt to establish
new rules of communication, and suggests that you pass the number on to
as many people as possible. As faxes arrive, they will be displayed in
the centre, forming an instant exhibition. There will also be interactive
games – some contributors will receive additional material in response
to their faxes, setting up a two-way link. The exhibition aims to show
that the fax machine can soar above the mundane transmission of data, its
technology used for ‘positive human interaction’.
