HUMANS love pets, and many of us also love gods, often irrationally, without caring that they don鈥檛 love us in return. This comparison of pets to religion provides Rowson with his title 鈥 a pun of unit-shifting power if ever there was one. As Rowson says, this is more of a rant than a book, but it鈥檚 an erudite, entertaining, informative and sometimes spectacularly rude rant. Sure, religion is irrational, but being irrational is part of what makes us human. Rowson says he wouldn鈥檛 believe in God even if His existence were proved, as he doesn鈥檛 want to: he doesn鈥檛 like the cut of God鈥檚 jib, apparently.
