In contrast, The Birds of Dorset isn鈥檛 going to have a great deal of appeal beyond the county鈥檚 boundaries. But for anyone with a serious interest in the county鈥檚 avifauna, it is a must.
George Green has given us a hugely detailed 500-page book (Christopher Helm, 拢40), discussing all 355 species on the county list. The depth of coverage is remarkable, from spring arrival dates for migrants to distribution maps for many of the breeding birds. One for locals.
