GLITZY TV show CSI: Crime Scene Investigation made forensic science sexy. Now the unsung science of epidemiology is getting the glamour treatment with the launch of a new drama called Medical Investigation.
The stars of the show, a pair of sharply-dressed scientists, 鈥渁re summoned in a heartbeat to scope out 鈥 and hopefully snuff out 鈥 outbreaks of unexplained and fearful diseases鈥, according to NBC, the network that aired the first episode in the US last Friday.
Brian Gestring, a member of the American Association of Forensic Sciences at Pace University in New York, says the 鈥淐SI effect鈥 has bumped up student applications to his forensics course. 鈥淭hey are drawn to the glitz and the glory,鈥 he says.

Gestring expects epidemiology to get a similar boost from Medical Investigation, 鈥渦nless it really stinks鈥.
