Nocturnal gardeners have German inventor Helmut Worner to thank for his simple idea – a hose with a light so you can see the plants you are watering. According to this patent application (WO 2004/18935) the nozzle of the hose has one or more LEDs built into the side. A mirror reflects light from the LED and directs it down the jet of water. Internal reflection in the water means the jet is illuminated all the way to the ground. The LEDs run at low voltage so there is no risk of electric shock. Several LEDs can be used to make white light or change colours for garden displays.
