Always losing your mouse under piles of papers? Throw it away and use a smart desk instead. Designed by German software company SAP and engineers at Lancaster University in the UK, the patent application describes a desk with a mosaic of pressure sensors built into its surface and controlled by small processor chip (WO 2004/029790). The desk connects to your computer either by cables or via a wireless link. Slide your hand over the desk and the sensors track its motion and convert it into a standard mouse control signal. Tapping the surface is equivalent to a mouse click.
