AEA Technology of the UK is patenting a way of delivering medicinal cannabis using an inhaler (GB 2384184). Smoking is a poor way to deliver a medicinal dose, and cannabis oil is too viscous for an ordinary nebuliser. So AEA has been looking for a way to make a cannabis aerosol. Its proposed process heats sodium chloride to 850 °C, lets it evaporate and then releases particles of around 500 nanometres diameter into a pumped airflow, which is mixed with cannabis oil vapour. As the air cools, the cannabis condenses onto the salt particles to form uniform droplets less than a micrometre in size, which can be put into an inhaler.
