It might be wise to indulge in some of life’s little luxuries before it’s too late – like having sex and eating caviar. Both were almost outlawed in Australia, after a slip of the pen by legislators drafting a version of the country’s new bill governing embryo research.
The draft specified illegal behaviours including “heterosexual sex if the intention was not pregnancy; creating embryos with two parents; giving birth following pregnancy; and eating caviar or any other fertilised egg, The Australian reported last week.
Alan Pettigrew, chief executive officer of the National Health and Medical Research Council, whose policy makers wrote the draft, reassured New Å®ÉúСÊÓƵ that the errors were caught way before the bill made it to Parliament, where it will be debated over the next few weeks.
