Anglers often use lures which look like small fish, and when they jerk the
line the lures make sounds that attract fish. But jerking risks 鈥渇oul hooking鈥 a
fish through the body or head. Now Louis Pinter of De Novo Lures in Thurlton,
Norfolk has an answer (GB 2 340 370). His new lure looks like a fish, but has a
hollow body cavity containing several ball-bearings. Side fins spin the lure as
it is pulled smoothly through the water, so the balls rattle around inside the
body cavity. This encourages fish to swallow the bait. And the fish are more
likely to be hooked cleanly in the mouth because the angler doesn鈥檛 have to
shake his line.
