Washing machines and tumble dryers can be death traps for children who like
to climb inside. So Donna Charles-Frederick and Mark McPherson of Northolt,
Middlesex, have patented a simple but effective safety device (GB 2 334 970).
You push a plate over the door opening, and turn a childproof handle to extend
latching wings that clamp against the inside of the door seal. No one can switch
the machine on until the plate is unlatched and removed.
