Tired of eating toast that’s burnt to a cinder? Robot-Coupe of
Montceau-Les-Mines, France, is patenting a see-through electric toaster (GB 2
332 349). A slice of bread is placed between two glass plates, each of which has
a thin coating of tin oxide. When a current runs through the coating, it
radiates infrared light, toasting the bread. And because the oxide coating is so
thin, visible light passes straight through the glass plates, so you can keep an
eye on your toast and see when it is done.
