Few books can be said to have changed the course of history, but Rachel
Carson’s Silent Spring (£7.99, ISBN 0140273719) is one of them, says
Carson’s biographer Linda Lear in the new edition. Penguin has also brought out
paperbacks of Carson’s Edge of the Sea (£7.99, ISBN 014027300X) and Lear’s
Rachel Carson: Witness for Nature (£12.99, ISBN 0140273018). Amazingly,
this is the first British publication of Edge of the Sea. No one who relishes
rock pools or enjoys wandering along a beach should be without a copy.
