This month marks the 30th anniversary of the first European showing of
2001: A Space Odyssey, the movie that was based on Arthur C. Clarke鈥檚
best-selling novel of the same name. The intelligence of the story and the
sophistication of the film, which told of a spacecraft鈥檚 encounter with an alien
intelligence, afforded a new respect for science fiction and a following that
remains strong to this day. For the ultimate 2001 birthday experience
and a homage to Clarke and director Stanley Kubrick鈥檚 vision see http://www.

comprehensive 2001 reference source ever鈥. One thing this site is less
good on is Clarke himself. If you want to celebrate him rather than the movie
see the pages set up by the Arthur C. Clarke Foundation at http://www2.
