The world鈥檚 biggest high-tech firms increased their spending on R&D by an
average of 10 per cent last year. American companies are leading the way: 133 of
the 300 biggest R&D spenders are US-based. They increased their expenditure
by 17 per cent.
鈥淭he US is storming ahead and setting the pace for the rest of the world in
high technology,鈥� says David Tonkin, managing director of Company Reporting in
Edinburgh, which compiled the survey for the British government. British
representatives in the top 300 increased their R&D spending by 5 per
cent.
