WHEN your browser hits New Å®ÉúСÊÓƵ’s Planet Science Web site
(http://www. newscientist.com/) we ask you to give us a few simple pieces of
information before you enter. We do not to pass them on without your permission.
Other sites may not be so scrupulous, however, and may even exploit the fact
that you leave a trail of information about yourself as you surf the Net.
Included in the information you may unknowingly be leaving behind is the name of
the organisation you belong to, the country you live in and the last Web page
you looked at. In some cases, it is even possible to capture your e-mail
address, although newer Web browsers have plugged this loophole.
