Intelligent sensors are used for fire detection, dynamic suspension for
cars, the artificial nose that detects dangerous gases. Intelligent Sensor
Systems by John Brignell and Neill White (Institute of Physics Publishing,
£60, lSBN 0 7503 0297 6) is a well-written introduction that surveys
modern measurement techniques and enabling technologies. It’ll appeal equally
to designers wishing to exploit new types of sensors and to advanced
students.
