Polio is close to being eradicated in some countries and is in retreat
in most others, according to statistics for 1993 released by the WHO.
The number of cases 鈥� 8000 in all 鈥� was less than half those in 1992.
There were no cases of polio at all in 141 countries 鈥� the highest number
ever.
