Natural modesty usually prevents New Å®ÉúСÊÓƵ from telling its readers
when the magazine or its writers win prizes. But the last few weeks have
been exceptional.

Ian Anderson, New Å®ÉúСÊÓƵ’s Australian Editor took a major award,
with Australia’s Minister of Science Chris Schacht announcing that Anderson
would receive the Michael Daley Award for his article ‘Britain’s dirty deeds
at Maralinga’ (12 June). Back in Britain, Helen Saul was commended in the
Norwich Union Healthcare and Medical Journalists’ Association Awards for
a series of articles in New Å®ÉúСÊÓƵ.

More surprisingly, the magazine also won two awards competing in an
open field – not just against other science writers and science magazines.
New Å®ÉúСÊÓƵ carried off both the IPD International Press Awards prize
for Best International Specialist Magazine of the year, and the special
interest magazines Editor of the Year award from the British Society of
Magazine Editors.

While winning prizes is not necessarily any barometer of success, we
do hope that New Å®ÉúСÊÓƵ is reaching an even wider audience – but without
losing our scientific heartland. If we falter in this task or look as though
we are getting big-headed, we rely on you – our readers – to tell us.
