The board of directors of the American Association for the Advancement of
Science (AAAS) announced last week that it had reversed its decision to hold
the association鈥檚 1999 annual meeting in Denver, Colorado, because the state
has overturned civil rights legislation to protect homosexuals and
bisexuals.
In announcing the board鈥檚 decision, the AAAS noted that in 1975 it
acknowledged that 鈥榮ome American scientists are members of sexual minorities
(homosexuals, transvestites, transsexuals, etc)鈥� and resolved to deplore
discrimination against such sexual minorities.
