Germany鈥檚 trees are growing increasingly unhealthy, according to Ignaz
Kiechle, the minister of agriculture. Presenting a report on the state of
the nation鈥檚 forests, Kiechle said that air pollution continues to be one
of the main reasons for the forest鈥檚 failing health.
This year 27 per cent of the trees in Germany are sick, 2 per cent more
than last year. 鈥楨xposure to sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxides has fallen
drastically in the past decade, but forest ecosystems react only gradually,鈥
said Kiechle.
