Public perceptions of environmental 鈥榗rime鈥 differ from those of executives
in companies, a survey has found. Arthur D. Little, a firm of consultants
found that 83 per cent of the British public regard environmental damage
as a serious crime, but only 67 per cent of executives agree.
Gordon Sellers, the author of the report, stresses that the difference
is in perception, not in who is right and who is wrong. 鈥業t shows that executives
may be feeling a little bit too cosy about what they are doing,鈥 says Sellers.
鈥楾hey should consider taking wider steps to reassure the public about their
operations, perhaps introducing environmental audits in their annual reports.鈥
