The director of London鈥檚 financially troubled zoo, David Jones, was
made redundant last week, following a special meeting of the Zoological
Society鈥檚 Fellows in January which produced an overwhelming vote of no confidence
in the zoo鈥檚 past management.
Cohn Tudge, one of the leaders of the reform group, which had called
January鈥檚 special meeting, welcomed the move, while emphasising that the
group had nothing against Jones personally. He added that there had been
a 180-degree turn in the zoo鈥檚 philosophy and it would now concentrate on
breeding animals.
A spokeswoman for the zoo said that Jones was discussing with zoo
management a reorientation of his activities towards international animal
conservation.
