Britain needs to bridge the 鈥榯echnology gap鈥� between academia and industry
by creating a network of 鈥楩araday Centres鈥� linking the two. This is the
principal recommendation from a Working Group on Innovation established
last September by Prince Charles.
Faraday Centres would emulate Germany鈥檚 Fraunhofer institutes, where
business and academia can mix. 鈥楳ost UK initiatives try to stretch industry
and higher education institutes to bridge the gap. Our view is that intermediate
institutions should provide a stepping stone between the two communities,鈥�
says Bob Whelan, a member of the working group.
