Frank Dobson, spokesman on energy for Britain鈥檚 Labour Party, says that
three-quarters of government departments increased their energy consumption
last year. At the Top of the list, with a 60 per cent rise, was the energy
department itself.
Dobson says this calls into question the government鈥檚 commitment to
energy conservation, which it has supported as a means of cutting carbon
dioxide emissions from fossil fuels.
Dobson obtained the information in response to Parliamentary questions.
But few of the departments gave much detail about where and how energy was
consumed. The lack of such records, he says, 鈥榮hows the government is not
taking energy conservation seriously鈥.
