The head of Europe鈥檚 most powerful environmental agency has resigned.
John Bowman, chief executive of Britain鈥檚 National Rivers Authority cleared
his desk this week after 20 months in the job. The NRA said that he resigned
because of 鈥榮hortcomings in internal management arrangements鈥.
Bowman was secretary of the Natural Environment Research Council before
taking over the helm of the NRA, created in 1989 to police the newly privatised
water industry, manage rivers and protect against floods. A spokesman for
the authority said this week that it would be looking for a 鈥榯op flight
manager鈥 to replace Bowman.
