The National Rivers Authority, Britain鈥檚 newest pollution control agency,
plans to award up to five postdoctoral research fellowships each year, according
to the organisation鈥檚 first ever review of its research and development
activities.
The NRA says spending on research is due to rise significantly next
year, when around 拢9.3 million will be allocated 鈥 an increase of
around 60 per cent on the current year. By 1995 the authority expects to
be spending just over 拢11 million on research and development. Most
of the programme will continue to be contracted out.
