The state government of Western Australia has backed down on a ban preventing
Etienne-Emile Beaulieu, the French inventor of the abortion pill RU486,
from giving a talk at a hospital.
Doctors at King Edward Memorial Hospital for women, the Australian Medical
Association, women鈥檚 rights groups and the state opposition, had all protested
that the ban amounted to 鈥榗ensorship鈥.
State health minister Keith Wilson, who opposes abortion and had banned
Beaulieu鈥檚 talk, reversed his decision after acknowledging that it might
not produce any 鈥榞ood and desirable final outcome鈥.
