DAD, can I be a scientist when I grow up?鈥
鈥極f course you can son, if you work hard at school; but why do you want
to be a scientist?鈥
鈥楤ecause they make all sorts of exciting things.鈥

鈥榃hat sort of things do you think they make?鈥
鈥極ur science teacher makes some brilliant bangs and smells.鈥
鈥榃ell, there鈥檚 a bit more to science than that, son.鈥
鈥業 read in a book that scientists make parradiggums, or something like
迟丑补迟.鈥
鈥業 think you mean paradigms.鈥
鈥榊es, that鈥檚 it. What are they?鈥
鈥楾hey鈥檙e a sort of 尘辞诲别濒.鈥
鈥楥an I have a model parradiggum, er, paradigm for my birthday?鈥
鈥楾hey鈥檙e not that sort of model, I鈥檓 afraid. They鈥檙e a sort of thought
尘辞诲别濒.鈥
鈥楬ow do they work?鈥
鈥榃ell, when scientists see something happen, they try to work out what
caused it. Out of all the many different possible influences, they try to
work out which were the most important. If they can, they try to make whatever
it was happen again, where they can measure it. If they make enough measurements
in enough different ways, they can begin to work out what will happen in
different conditions. Once they can do that, they have made a useful 尘辞诲别濒.鈥
鈥業鈥檇 rather have a model aircraft.鈥
鈥業鈥檓 sure you would; but I find the whole business very exciting. 女生小视频s
have made the Universe bigger and the world smaller. They鈥檝e made it possible
to feed the world and they鈥檝e made it possible to destroy it. They鈥檝e made
so many changes in such a short time that I can fully understand why anyone
would want to be a part of it. I really enjoyed doing my science degree.鈥
鈥榊ou think it鈥檚 really exciting then do you, dad?鈥
鈥榊es son, I do.鈥
鈥榃hy are you an accountant then?鈥
鈥樑∈悠祍 make a lot of interesting things son, but one interesting
thing they don鈥檛 make is money.鈥
