SEVEN of Europe鈥檚 biggest chemicals firms called last week for the European
Community to 鈥榬esolve its many current biotechnology policy initiatives鈥
into a clear system for registering and patenting new biotechnology products.
The firms 鈥 Britain鈥檚 ICI and Unilever, Ferruzzi, Hoechst and Rhone-Poulenc
from within the Community, and Monsanto and Sandoz from outside it 鈥 also
want a Community-wide market for biotechnological products, and 鈥榤arket
authorisation based only on scientific criteria of quality, safety and efficacy鈥.
