THE CANADIAN government has announced that it is to cut almost 40 million
Canadian dollars from funds previously allocated for new research programmes.
Additionally, funding increases for 鈥榟igh-profile鈥� projects, such as creating
centres of excellence, will be 鈥榗apped鈥� at 5 per cent over the next two
years, approximately the rate of inflation in Canada.
The finance minister, Michael Wilson, announced the cuts late last month
as part of the federal budget.
